The Guardian of the Flame Tournament

Another fun weekend at the tournament, and with a super ballsy effort the Steamer wins their pool at the Guardian of the Flame tournament.

In a couple of weird developments - Joe Quinn was able to get an amendment passed counting tournament goals in the career totals from this year forward; and a lightning storm apparently sent some very demeaning texts out to people. Who knew?

Game 1 Saturday afternoon the Steam wins 7-6 as Eric scores on a break-away with 2.5 seconds left for the win. Eric and Shane with 2 goals, Jason with 3.

As Craig would say - guys that drink PBR "are men." As PBR was the only beer supplied this year, and there was 6 hours between games.....game 2 started good, but ended badly in a 7-2 loss. Joey and Shane lit the lamp.

Game 3 - a fresh Steamer looks really tough in an 8-2 win.  Eric with 2, Shane 3, Jason, Stephen, and Joe Quinn with goals.

Pool championship against the team that beat us - insane effort from the Steam. Down 2-1, we get two late 2nd period goals to to take a 3-2 lead and hold down the fort in a scoreless 3rd for the win. Shane, Joey, and Eric all get on the board.

The line-up:
Terry (G) - good tourney and great on Saturday in net, despite both knees being swollen like grapefruits. Four goal allowed in the last 2 games made all the difference.

Randy (D) - typically solid, and added stunning levels of beer drinking and nudity that would have made Frank and Reegan proud.

Josh (D) - all over the place on the ice, nice effort. Still a Wings fan though!

Brian (D) - solid three games at wing and defense and was the only guy that could silence the locker room by telling us he'd miss the last game due to a Sarah Maclachlan concert. It took a while for us to realize he was serious.

Ted (D) - late sub (Thanks Shane) who is a chowderhead and typically the best D-man in our C-3 league (maroon breezers on the Buzzards). A very solid addition.

Joe Quinn (D) - played defense, center and wing. Nice versatility, amendment and goal.

Stephen (W) - big winner in the raffle, nice goal on Saturday morning and great hustle on the game winner in the championship.

Frank (W) - off skates for a while, still looked solid and had the beautiful pass to Eric for the championship goal.

Bill (W) - quality work on the weekend playing the grinder role on a skill line.

Joey (W) - nice weekend with 2 goals including the game-tying goal in the final.

Jason (C) - typically great all weekend with 5 goals, shook off an obvious concussion in the final and played superb defense - made the play on Joey's tying goal.

Joe W. (W) - played a simple game, get puck and pass to Shane. Also dominated the classic parking lot game Moolky!

Shane (W) - gets the GM award for recruiting Ted, and oh yeah, added 7 goals on the weekend. Also nice enough to write "glory hole" on his payment check!

Eric (C) - probably our MVP of the weekend as he had about 7 or 8 assists, and 4 goals -including both game-winners in the one-goal games. Nice work E-5!

Nice work boys. Great weekend and our first title at the tourney!

2010 Charity Hockey Tournament

Yes, oh yes - the Steamer represented again this year.  Tournament recap:

MVP - Bada Bing with 5 goals, 2 were game winners, and missed work to keep drinking, all of which probably excused what The Mesmerizer called "crying like a bee-yotch" when he hurt his knee.  

And we had a Dr. try to get the pussy-whippedness out of him...but it did not work. 

Worst story - Bada Bing's sprained knee and CWebb's back re-aggravation.

We did see CWebb drink beers though, so that is a plus.  Beers consumed - too many to count.  Between period "breaks" - only 5, a new low.

Shocker award - Slim Shady who had this great shoot-in...

...but was witness to a bad "shoot-out" as a chick dropped a nose-scorching grumpy in the stall next to him while he took a pre-game leak.

Best story - The Mesmerizer played great all weekend and told wild tales of visiting the elephants at the zoo or something like that.

Co-MVP - Boris the Blade - great weekend in net, set up a plan to avoid having to start his car with alcohol-free breath, and and actually brought a chick to a game.

Prize winner - JQ - big time haul of alcohol.

Game # 1 - we dominated, but lost 2-1 (Jason).

Game # 2 - we were drunk, played a better team and won 6-5 . Scoring: Jason x3, young Joey Samudio, E5, and Bada Bing. (Bada Bing with the game winner with 15 seconds left).

Game # 3 - played like we were sore and hung-over - lost 7-1 (Bada Bing). We did ogle the Red Bull girls at a championship level though.

Game # 4 - we looked iffy after 5 hours of between game beer drinking. But we rallied and got a really good no-goal call in a 5-3 win (Bada Bing x3 and another game winner, Professor, and Tripod).

Q:  What is better than post-game cigars and scotch? 
A:  Nothing - and there was much rejoicing!

This weekend we return to the Guardian of the Flame hockey tournament.  And what is more special than skating in a charity tournament and raising money for kids with special needs? 

And you know it's a special moment when your wap from Detroit and a mick from Boston start a fight during the games.  Ahhh.......its for the kids!

Fondest memories........with the free beer, there were a lot of sprints to the bathroom between each period.Ending memories.......everything seemed in very slow motion on Sunday night at the 5th game in 51 hours.
