One great punch
This was not related to a goal scoring celebration. That being said, Chowd and I attended and Oilers / AVS game last year and ended up sitting by Smid and MacIntyre who were both healthy scratches. "Big Mac" is listed as 6-05, 250 lbs. and after standing by him, I am sure those are accurate numbers.

Lucic signs extension!
The Bruins arguably overpaid to re-sign Milan Lucic. While $4 million per year seems high, you have to remember that he is already a Bruins icon at the age of 21. And along with his fearsome hitting, he brings that one other intangible. I already put the warning out there, but here is that "intangible" against Senator Chris Neil in the pre-season.

Punks of the NHL / The AVS savior - part 1
Yes, this guy is the answer! Andrew Brunette for $2.5 million, or this guy for $2.2 (source: NHLPA site)? I always thought he was a punk, and pulling on an AVS won't change that. While he at least has "the seeds" to fight, his cheap shot elbow to the head on Scott Niedermayer in the playoffs was one of the all-time bush league moves. The picture shows him pouting and here is one of his proudest moments. Notice that he precipitates this by, what else, throwing a cheap elbow at Alexi Kovalev. As Pete pointed out, this really shows the insane skill of Kovalev.

A chip off the old........bitterman?
I imagine most of you saw this video of the melee involving the Canadian Junior team that Patrick Roy coaches. Roy and his son were suspended after the melee.
For my two cents - this is ridiculous and the suspension was totally warranted. I guess his son is unaware of the code that says you don't keep hitting a guy when his head is near the ice - especially when you jumped him! Notice the classy gesture while heading off the ice near the end of the donnybrook. The untold part is that the punching bag is one of the best goalies in the QMJHL and Roy's son is something of a sieve as indicated in this ESPN article.

Hockey quotes - # 8
The former Boston Bruin forward (who - as seen here - went into the stands at Madison Square Garden), and current Colorado Avalanche color analyst, Peter McNab: "I don't care who you are, or at what level you play, everyone remembers their first goal!"

Fagan's is closed?
Yes that famous watering hole "Fagan's" is closed. The sight of many beers, numerous shots, push-ups, possible vomiting, and a fracas or two - has closed it's doors for good. You can read about it here.
It will be sad that one of the shortest walks in post-bar history may be behind us. But like the Hanson Brothers - we came out a bit tattered, have fond memories, and always won our fights (despite a shiner or two). As one patron said while we were getting a lecture from John "Who didn't think guys wearing hockey jerseys were going to throw?"
You'll be missed.........

A beauty of a bench clearer!
Crazy hockey fight from that 1987 World Juniors Tournament - referenced in the article below. This is a good one.

The Bruins in the stands at Madison Square Garden!
Ah, old time hockey. More from Terry O'Reilly as a fan takes his stick and he goes to get it (the kind of dedication to sticks that I love).
It is amusing to note that # 26 is former Islander General manager, Mike Milbury - watch his work with the shoe.
And yes, # 8 is current Avalanche TV color analyst Peter McNab.
As always, click the title of the post to play the link. Go Bruins!

Tribute to # 24 Terry O'Reilly
I am sure many of you remember the movie Happy Gilmore. They explain that Happy idolized Terry O'Reilly and always wore his jersey. If you have any connection to New England, you know what a sports legend he was / is in Boston. His number 24 is retired by the Bruins and few people realize that in 1977-78 he had 90 points and 211 pims. More importantly, he was 6-01 200 lbs. when he played, and unlike Inigo Montoya - he was left-handed.
But really he was known as the scariest player in the NHL when he played. AVS analyst Peter McNab, has referred to him as terrifying - and the link in the title will explain why.
"We" are still working on the video where he actually went into the stands during a game against the Rangers at Madison Square Garden and started beating ass on some fans. We will keep you posted but enjoy this in the meantime.
