Dates - St. Pattys - part 1

Do you have any Irish in ya'?  Would you like some?
Happy St. Patrick's Day!

Q: The NHL and the scarecrow in The Wizard of OZ - what's the difference? A: Nothing

Ok, I know that everyone is going to call me a Bruins homer on that Matt Cooke / Marc Savard hit.  The hit is here.

For the record, I thought Mike Richards should have been suspended for this hit as well.  Richards was not a repeat offendender, but they still messed up on that one.  To use that wrong decision as precedent is just idiotic.

The NHL disciplinarian (uh-huh), Colin Campbell, said there was no rule violation for what Cooke did, and next year there will be a rule. You can't just make up a rule as you go along. Oh really?  A couple of reminders:

A) Brett Hull's skate in the crease for the Stanley Cup winning goal. An "interpretation" was made that made that play different than the like 23 other playoff goals that were waived off that year.

2) Geno Malkin starting a fight with Datsyuk in the last 5 minutes of a Stanley Cup Final game last year. I thought that was a fine and an automatic suspension for the player and the coach? Oh, not in that particular scenario.

Pi) Sean Avery waving his stick in the face of Brodeur. How did that end again? Oh that's right, they made up a rule in the middle of the playoffs......kind of like the other two.

Anyway, final points:

1)  Imagine if this was your favorite player or the best player on your team?  What would you think then?
2)  What about if / when this happens to Sidney Crosby?  Do you think there will be no penalty and no suspension?
3)  The players are the product you idiots.  It is really sad that the greatest sport on earth is getting ruined by bush league morons.

The Gold Pan returns to Denver

And your DU Pioneers head into the WCHA playoffs as the # 1 team in the country!

There was defeinitely one event that reminded me of you!

Hockey Article of the Week - A

Now I know that Jack Edwards borders on preposterous when doing a Bruins game.  There is no doubt that he is a super homer.  Regardless, read this article and let me know if you disagree?

First goal of the season - Winter '10

Goes to the always dangerous, # 47, Harlan Pepper!

NHL Hit of the year - Ohlund?

This is what a clean hit looks like........Lightning D-Man Mattias Ohlund lowers the boom on Swedish teammate Henrik Zetterberg.

Of course this is the Colin Campbell and Gary Bettman run NHL - where blind-side head-hunter hits are OK, but if you make a clean hit, like Ohlund did, someone wants to fight you!

Dates - St. Pattys - part 2

Goal of NHL 09/10? - # 10

It is common knowledge that # 13-wearing, right-shooting, Left Wings are complete studs.  And Carolina Hurricane Ray Whitney re-confirmed that point with this bonanza of a goal against the AVS.

Hockey Article of the Week - B

Former NHL goalie Kevin Weekes is becoming quite a hockey analyst.  While he may be crazy based on his former position, he has the insight of not being too far removed  from the game and reasonable perspective.  I really liked his "big picture" take on the Cooke / Savard hit - you can read it here.
