The Century mark?

In the Spring season this triumvirate of manliness (Pepper, The Tripod, and The Professor) all passed the 100 career goals mark to join E5 in that select company.
Shane evoked memories of his boyhood idol, William Shatner, when he explained his feelings about the achievement........

Things that amuse me - part 3

I am not sure if anyone else will find this funny..........but for some reason, I did. Yes, a spoof of the Flobots song made to mock guys at your local bar scene (and you can pick from four). Play the "Low-Dough" (their spelling, not mine) version. Did I hear a cougar reference?

First goal of the Summer 2008 season.....

Huh? Well, with the move to C-3, Chippendale's (Blake) with the first goal of the new era! We also saw that his Son has some pretty impressive moves as well.

The long off season

Oh my Lord, is July over yet? Why do the seasons seem to go quicker and every off season seems to last forever? Well, just over two months until the NCAA and NHL seasons start again. In an effort to assist you through the hot, dog days of summer, I thought I'd throw this absolute beauty at you. Maybe the best game of last year's playoffs. I found that the "Rocky" music, Jack Edward's excitement, and - of course - the result, made this really enjoyable.

Budaj's new mask

Now that he is going to be the AVS # 1 keeper - which is fine by me - let's give some love to Peter Budaj and his new mask!

Things that amuse me - part 2

For those of you who have recently heard, or are long familiar with, the "PANCAKES" story........here is part of the recipe to that sinister nickname!

Editorial # 14 - Total class!

I think a lot of you have heard about David Carle, the younger brother of Former DU Pioneer Matt, who won the Hobey Baker trophy while playing for DU. David (pictured above, thanks to the LetsGoDU Blog) had signed to play at DU starting this Fall and was rated to be about a 2nd or 3rd round NHL draft pick.
A couple of days before the draft, doctors conducting tests on David Carle found a heart abnormality. He was diagnosed with the same heart condition that led to the deaths of basketball players Reggie Lewis and Hank Geathers.

This obviously signaled the end of Carle's hockey career. Carle called coach Gwozdecky at DU and the NHL to let them know that his career was over. In a move that I did not find surprising, Coach Gwozdecky told Carle that the school would honor his scholarship and that he would be part of the team in a non-playing capacity.

Then surprisingly, David Carle was drafted in the last (7th) round of the NHL Draft by the Tampa Bay Lightning. The new ownership group basically said that since he had worked so hard to get drafted by an NHL team, they did not think he should lose that honor. You can read the story on the Let's Go DU BLOG.

In a time when sports stories are so negative and magnify the lack of perspective of many in the world of competitive sports, I thought this was a refreshing story. So, next time you get a chance, tip a glass to Coach Gwozdecky and the DU Pioneers, as well as the Tampa Bay Lightning!

Guy from Detroit hurt in pillow accident?

OK, when you heard about the injury - who didn't think of Anthony? Come on, be honest!
As this article indicates, Brandon Inge of the Detroit Tigers really got hurt with a pillow. It also includes a quality list of other injuries.
Who says baseball players are sissies?

First goal, and hat trick, of the Summer 2008 season.....

Scored by this big lummox. The Tripod - god is he sexy, and smart looking!

Top 10 plays of the World Championships

The Top 10 plays of the World Championships - won by the Russian team pictured above - can be seen here.

Congratulations...again...

To # 47, Center, Jason K who led the Steamer in Spring scoring (seen here with a fat lip from a puck in the first Summer game). In 13 games, Almond Joy put up 13 goals and 24 helpers for 37 points en route to the scoring title.
The goal title went to The Professor with 17 (E5 had 15 and Ditka 13) including a team leading 3 hat tricks.
The Professor, E5 and Kris Kringle each had 2 game winning goals.
The Star of the Game point total was: Chub 30; Almond Joy 29; E5 26; The Prof 25 and Ditka 24 (nice tight race).

Mad props to all!
