Someone give me a "WOW!"
For my money I think Marian Gaborik is the fastest player in the NHL. Last week he scored 5 goals in a game, the first time that has happened in just over ten years. On December 7th he was involved in this play that I think was the most amazing thing I have seen him do - albeit, unwillingly. Enjoy and marvel....
What the hell?
There was some surprise when the STEAMER was uncerimoniously run out of the playoffs in the first round. Further investigation revealed an interesting clue as to the reason........... For those of you scoring at home, you have (L to R) standing: Billy "The Mesmerizer" Crystal; "Nutty" Howie Mandel; Jerry "Sgt. Schultz" Seinfeld; Tom "Tripod" Hanks; Ben "Chowdah" Stiller; Ben "Slim Shady" Affleck; and Tom "Ditka" Arnold.
Kneeling: Matt "Bada Bing" Damon; Cat Stevens; The Phantom of the Opera; Martin "Howitzer" Short; and Ron "Bullitt" Howard.

The ultimate road trip?
What does this have to do with Sports Illustrated and swimsuits? Nothing really, but check out this site by a guy that saw NHL games in all 30 NHL arenas on 30 consecutive nights. Like this picture, pretty impressive!
But they are so easy to hate.....
On occasion when discussing college hockey I am asked why I hate Minnesota and North Dakota so much. In reality, like the Red Wings, it is the arrogance of their fans. The level of entitlement based on the talent they get and the lack of perspective sure does not help either. Regardless, I think this article really sums it up.

DU's finish - what a bonanza!
Denver University had a remarkable comeback against St. Cloud State on Saturday night, courtesy of sophomore winger - # 9 Rhett Rakhshani and his late hat trick. If you didn't get to see the game, here is the last 6 minutes - all you really need to see!
Scoring champion....
He scored so much he could not keep his eyes open! Chalk up another for The Professor. He led in goals, assists, points, and hat tricks (and tied Randy in game winning goals). We had him with 21 goals and 15 assists in 10 games and the league scorekeepers had him with 20 goals and 9 assists - (we always do better).
Nevertheless, another scoring title for the young Elvis Costello!

Zamboni problems?
So, you thought it was bad when before our game the Zamboni died and dropped all the hot water onto the ice creating that 2" x 6" x 120" fiord?

Combinations - part 8 - opening night
The Tyler Ruegsegger goal
One of the alternate captains for Denver University this season is sophomore forward Tyler Ruegsegger - from Lakewood, via Littleton, Colorado. For an interesting note about Colorado hockey - follow this link. For his spectacular goal from two weeks ago, you can see it here as it is the early front-runner for goal of the year.

STEAMER - Fall 2007
Defense from Ozo?
For those of you that remember Sandis Ozolinsh as an AVS player, this is truly shocking. We used to joke that his name translated from Latvian to English meant "odd man rush." Nevertheless, watch his beautiful play here as it is play #8. Also on here is the crazy Gionta goal.

NHL Goal of 07-08 - Rick Nash?
I think we all knew this guy was a stud when we learned that he was born on June 16th and used TPS sticks. Regardless, this highlight reel goal was a bonanza!
STEAMER Field Trip?
I called the Avalanche to see about a Steamer outing to get a box / suite to an Avalanche game. One suite, sixteen tickets, four parking passes, food and beer included...
Price? $4,000.00!!!
My reaction? Priceless.....
Punks of the NHL....part 1
I am not sure why I hate Dion Phaneuf so much - but I do. He just seems so arrogant and seems like the type of person that kicks puppies.

Steamer rewards program?
Because they led the team in the major statistical categories last season (Ditka in helpers, The Professor in goals and points) - Shane and Scott had the distinct pleasure of meeting two celebrities:
Comedian / Illusionist Penn Gillette of Penn and Teller;
and Singer Robert Smith of The Cure. Congrats boys, what an honor!

Rules in Life # 9 - It gets lonely....
...on the blue line when you are a lumbering left wing covering for a roaming D-Man.
So, here's wishing good luck to E5 while he is in Iowa. To help you deal with loneliness take a look at one of the all-time best Will Ferrell clips!
New training regimen?
An interesting article about one of the DU Hockey team's offseason training programs.
NHL Goal of 07-08 - Jonathan Toews?
In case you did not see this beauty against the AVS. He beats three pretty good players, and Joe Ted, for this highlight-reel goal.

New link to Pointstreak website
The league has finally added statistics and other info via the Poinstreak website. It has been added to the right side column under "League Information" and you can access it here.

"Breeze-By" of galactic proportions
Many of us were not sad to see Patrice Bisebois (aka Breeze-By) leave the defense corps of the Avalanche. I have heard about mixed reviews from Candians fans about him re-signing with the Habs. Here is one fan taking it really hard (no offense to E5).

Major props....
....to the Professor on another scoring title.
This Harvard grad won the Milan Hejduk trophy, the 5 stars trophy, and the scoring title with 18 goals and 25 points in 9 games - to include two 3-goal and two 4-goal games.
He has also shown some fast work on the ice, as well as cute servers and new teachers. Nice!

The new sweaters?
Well, with fanfare only rivaled by Navin Johnson getting his new phone books, "the new jerseys are here!"
The long, arduous, and painful process has finally come to an end. The artwork - which looks nothing like a beer bottle logo - was created by E5, and the new look is modeled by The Professor and The Mesmerizer!
